THE FOUR SUNS:
A PICTOGRAPHIC MANUSCRIPT
Conversation with the Past
Before Columbus, the Mesoamerican region boasted a rich network of cultures and civilization that used complex forms of writing. In a very short time after the arrival of Europeans all of the books, except for a handful, were destroyed and the writing banned and forgotten. I became fascinated with the books such as the codex Borgia and the Codex Nuttall and couldn't help but ask what if the art-form had not been lost?
I studied the work of the Mixtec scribes and created this pictographic book to tell a Mesoamerican creation myth how they may have done 500 years ago.
